Involved in the specialist oral healthcare delivery programme of the Ministry of Health since 1997 and the development of clinical practice guidelines. Involved in the establishment of dental Specialty Sub-committees of the National Specialist Register and currently member of the Specialty Sub-committee for Dental Public Health. Member of Secretariat and Executive Committee for National Oral Health Plan (NOHP) 2000-2010 and 2011-2020.
Winthrop Professor Marc Tennant
Director (And Founder) of the International Research Collaborative Oral Health and Equity at the University Of Western Australia
After graduating as a dentist in the mid 1980’s Marc completed a Doctorate (in Anatomy and Human Biology) focused on vascular biology and the application of computer driven algorithms to measurement of cellular change. For the last 15 years his research has moved to focus on public health strategy and social equity, through the International Research Collaborative – Oral Health and Equity (IRC-OHE). He has more than 150 peer–review publications to his name, over $US15million in research and development funding and works with about 25 postgraduate students at the moment. Marc’s efforts have made a significant impact on oral health in Australia and in particular groups who are disadvantaged. His team is recognized by WHO for its leadership in social justice development in particular in workforce innovation. Marc’s current research passion is focused on the use of geographic information systems and Big Data to drive innovations in health service strategy taking advantage of the intersects between the disciplines of mathematical modelling, health and service planning. Marc also was an inaugural dental fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Executives in 2010 and in 2013 has been jointly acknowledged by The University of Western Australia student guild for services to students with the naming of a new building in his honour. Marc’s current hobbies include ancient Phoenician writing and Big Data.
